Consultation on the future definition of public service mutuals

In 2019 the government proposed dramatically re-purposing its controversial Public Service Mutuals programme, which since 2011 has supported parts of the public sector to ‘spin out’ as independent social enterprises. It is now consulting on proposals that would transform this into something that encourages and supports businesses with “significant employee influence and control” to participate in public sector supply chains.
