Co-op Connections Online – London

Calling ALL co‑operatives! Connect ONLINE to discuss BAME representation in the co‑op sector

Join us for a special online Co-op Connections event during Black History Month to discuss Black and Minority Ethnic representation in the UK co‑operative sector. Part of the London Co-op Connections meet‑up, this discussion is open to people from co‑operatives throughout the country.

Ade Sawyerr from Equinox Consulting will summarise the history of the black co‑op movement from the 1980s – and fast track to the issues in 2020.

  • Why aren't the 10 Caribbean migrants who started Hornsey Credit Union – the first credit union in Britain – celebrated in the same way we laud the Rochdale Pioneers?
  • What action can we take as a movement to support BAME led co-ops and diversify our own membership?

Jenny Holsgrove from Co-operatives UK will share findings from our recent diversity and inclusivity review.

  • What we have learned and what steps we are taking to create a more equitable organisation
  • Inviting you to work with us to create opportunities for a more diverse and representative co-operative sector

Join us to share your ideas on how the co‑op movement has under represented BAME communities in the past. And tell us what you think needs to be done to address this now.

This informal discussion will be followed up with a practical workshop at Practitioners Forum on 19 November.
